Updated, re-imagined and re-engineered for 2024/5, the brand new Spatz 'BIBZ2' winter tights are unlike anything available on the market today. The new version are sleeker, better fitting and more comfortable than before whilst retaining the legendary warmth, water-repellancy and comfort of the original 'BIBZ'. The re-design of our 'SHIN SEALS' means the new 'BIBZ2' now integrate seamlessly with our Spatz Overshoes.
The primary brief for our brand new ‚ BIBZ2‚ Winter Bib Tights was simple: Design and produce the only cycling bib tights that you will need to train/ride through a harsh winter, regardless of the conditions. It was vital that the tights integrated with our famous Spatz Overshoes and market-leading Base Layers. Our goal was to design, develop and manufacture a full body clothing system comprised of garments which integrate together beautifully. We have created the ultimate cold weather cycling apparel system.
We are very proud to say that the Spatz ‚ BIBZ‚Winter Bib Tights are designed, tested and manufactured in the North of England (and are made of 100% recycled fabrics too). Water repellent (DWR) coatings are plant based and PFC free, and the packaging is fully compostable.
Main features of the ‚ BIBZ2‚ include:
- A gilet style upper ‚ bib‚ area manufactured from water repellant, thermal Roubaix fabric. The gilet area becomes your second layer of defence and works brilliantly over your Spatz Base Layer.
- Targeted, super thick, thermal, water repellant Roubaix fabric (right where you need it) on the thigh and knee areas to fend off the cold wind and rain. The rear panels and hamstring area are manufactured using a slightly thinner layer of the same roubaix fabric to allow articulation and ease of movement whilst pedalling.
- The 'Shin Seals' on the lower legs have been totally re-engineered for 24/25 and are now made from a laser cut neoprene-like material, to integrate perfectly with our Spatz Overshoes. The 'Shin Seals' overlap the top of Spatz overshoes (regardless of the overshoe model); moisture ingress is minimised and leg/foot coverage becomes a seamless system top to bottom.
- Premium quality 'Tornado Pro3' chamois pad for the ultimate in comfort, regardless of how long you ride. This pad is patented and offers antibacterial weave, vibration protection and is rated for ultra distance 8h+ rides. The surface of the pad is made using bamboo fibres and Eco-Breeze tex and is also recycled. We have simply specced the very best pad available.
- Thermal lining - brushed fleece internal face
- 100% recycled fabric - made from post consumer recycled polyester & pre consumer waste polyamide
- PFC-free DWR hydrophobic coating (plant based). The bib tights are fully water repellant.
- 4 way stretch
- Highly breathable (18m²PA/W)
It has been our aim to produce our apparel in the UK since our incorporation in 2017. We are very pleased to have teamed up with Lusso in Manchester to manufacture this product with us. We brought our design and technical knowledge and coupled it with Lusso's legendary manufacturing expertise and attention to detail. Together we have produced what we think is the very best apparel currently available.
Our heritage is cycling in Yorkshire and Belgium. We ride and train in the cold and rain and have done so for a lifetime. These tights were designed for such conditions (specifically for/by a 2x Olympic Champion from Leeds). In a lifetime of cycling in all conditions, we have never had access to a garment which is so well thought-out. The tights integrate beautifully with our overshoes and base layers to form a full clothing system that simply makes so much sense.

Wearing these tights turns a sub zero morning in the rain on the way to work into a ride along the coast on a warm day in Calpe. Don't bother booking a holiday, just buy these tights.
This bib is on a level of it's own - the built-in gilet is a game changer. I used it on a long cold gravel ride and it kept me nice and warm. The fit was spot on and this bib is made to last - love it and then some!
Was unsure what these would be like as I’ve always gone with a certain other brand for bibs. But I am absolutely delighted with these. Been out on club rides just above freezing, wet roads but not in the rain yet, and they’ve performed fantastically. Firstly, let’s talk warmth. I am a cold old sole who generally freezes even on fast rides. So I wore these, a base layer and a club winter jacket. I felt very comfortable temperature wise. I didn’t overheat either, which was a concern. For me, I reckon I’ll be happy using these up to 9 or 10 degrees. Secondly, I want to mention comfort: my main concern was that the pad would be rubbish. Have had a few bibs over the years with awful chamois pads. Rest assured, this one from Spatz is very comfortable indeed. I rate it up there with the ludicrously expensive one from Tom Pidcock’s new team, my preferred pad. This is that good. As for the comfort of the material, what is not to like? It’s got the layout of the layers absolutely spot on. Thirdly, what about the integrated gillet vest instead of straps? Bloody genius I reckon. It’s easy to put on, comfortable when on, regulates heat efficiency, is no issue when you need the loo. Love it. Downsides: only one for me: they roll up when you try to pull on your Spatz long overshoes and are really hard to pull down. Would be good to have some kind of stirrup to keep them in place. Spatz has put a neoprene-esque fabric at the bottom of each leg but less skinny ankles are needed to hold them in place when pulling the covers on.
So on a nutshell: what do I think of these winter bibs? Absolutely bloody brilliant. It’s like having a winter skinsuit in many ways just with a jacket on top. Keep up the good work lads but let’s think about a stirrup or something!
I had the original Bibz, which were my go to Winter Bib Tights. Unfortunately the zip got damaged and the Bibz were a long way out of warranty. I emailed to ask if they had a repair service, but they very kindly sent me out a new pair of their new Bibz2! Over the moon. Going out tomorrow morning to try them out and the forecast is cold and wet. Perfect test!
Was dubious about buying these but they’re simply the best winter bibs I’ve owned, that includes Castelli Sorpasso and Adidas Adistar top end bibs.
2 degrees over the tops into the Yorkshire Dales, the inbuilt gilet worked well with just the Spatz winter base and Spatz squadron jersey.
